Green tea as a weight loss aid

In a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, green tea extract increased energy expenditure and metabolism, and was proven to positively impact the body’s rate of fat oxidation.
While some of these effects were thought at first to be because of the green tea’s caffeine, there are some that cannot be attributed to the caffeine. Although, on the other hand, an equal amount of caffeine, given alone, did not raise energy expenditure at all. This means something else going is on with the active ingredients in green tea.
For weight control, these findings seem rather promising. An increase in metabolism during the day was attributed directly to the green tea supplement. Because the body’s rate of burning calories is only about ten percent of daily energy expenditure, this increase translates into about 40% more calories burned per day.
Interested individuals should know that green tea has very little risk for any type of  side effects, and none of the test subjects within the study reported an increased heart rate. Green tea extract, in this regard, is much safer than other products like ma huang and ephedra, or prescription diet pills.
If you want to supplement your healthy lifestyle with green tea, you should choose a trusted brand of organic green tea from your health food store or grocer. Start out with a cup a day. But, a much easier way to add green tea to your diet is to take a supplement. Take it with meals, to prevent any of the albeit minor side effects.
Other studies have shown that caffeine boosts the metabolism, but only at dangerously high doses that can play havoc with the heart rate. Green tea supplements are safer because they contain very little caffeine (three tablets contain about as much as one cup of coffee). The caffeine is thought to work in tandem with the catechins in green tea. Catechins are believed to be responsible for the many health benefits of green tea.
The amount of green tea extract can vary from one brand of supplement to another. Liquid extracts are usually more highly concentrated than caplets. Most supplement labels will say that one dose is equivalent to “x” number of cups of tea. If you are taking supplements for their antioxidant properties, look closely at that label. An ideal supplement will contain a high level of EGCG, the beneficial polyphenol in green tea.
Green tea has long been thought to aid in weight loss. Its polyphenols work with other chemicals present to increase the body’s natural ability to burn fat. With the caffeine in green tea, this can be a useful tool for those who want to lose weight. Green tea supplements are enjoying a lot of popularity as weight loss and muscle building formulas.

TEA AS A WEIGHT LOSS AID
Tea has been used as an aid for weight  loss. Drinking a cup of tea with each meal is a protocol for using tea successfully as a metabolic stimulant. Tea by itself carries only 4 calories per serving, and it's most healthy when consumed with nothing added. The caffeine in tea increases body function to help burn more calories and the polyphenols seem to aid in the digestion of fat, truly making it a Chinese diet tea.. Pu-erh and Oolong teas have received the most attention regarding weight loss, but all types of tea offer a low calorie alternative to commercial beverages.
With obesity become epidemic worldwide doctors and patients alike are looking for methods that will help augment diet and exercise in order to help people lose weight through natural methods. One method that has been studied is the use of green tea to help reduce body fat and body weight. Needless to say the Chinese have known about this for hundreds of years and now other countries are waking up to the overall health benefits of green tea. In Green tea weight loss studies that have been conducted in recent years, nearly all of them have shown that green tea does decrease fat mass and body weight.
Dieting the conventional way is fine but too often people go on a diet and starve. This will put the body into an energy saving state which then lowers your metabolism with the end result being that fewer calories are burned. Then your body starts to look for energy and the usual source is protein in your muscle. Many who see themselves losing weight are really seeing muscle loss and not true weight loss. Combining exercise with green tea and a moderate diet will be far more effective in the long run.
Green tea will help to boost your metabolism making it easier for the body to burn fat. It also helps to prevent your body from absorbing fat from the foods you are eating. More importantly, using green tea in weight loss helps your body to regulate its blood sugar levels which then helps to reduce those food cravings that everyone gets while dieting.
Green tea is not an appetite suppressant. Some companies will make this claim and it is completely false as studies have shown. Green tea does help people to exercise for longer periods of time as it can significantly increase your endurance levels. People who drink green tea and exercise will experience more burned fat that someone who simply diets and exercises.
The key to sustained weight loss is to lose weight slowly so that you are burning fat and not muscle. Green tea in weight loss promotes the burning of fat so that your muscles can stay strong. Another factor to consider is that you do not want water loss from your body. If you do that it will simply return the minute you stop the diet and exercise. That's why burning fat is so crucial.
Green tea is not a fast acting diet and one should use it in order to reach long term goals. It will help your metabolism. And with long term diet and exercise you will see more significant results than someone who only does exercise while dieting. Their metabolism will be more sluggish than the person using green tea for weight loss.
Even when you have reached your goal weight you should still use green tea for its long term benefits as an antioxidant and metabolism booster. Drinking more green tea for weight loss than what would be considered normal will have no added benefits. People should use it in moderation. Studies have shown that the longer you take green tea the more fat your body will burn. In the Far East studies showed that people who drank green tree regularly over a ten year period had less body fat than people who did not drink it. This should become a part of your daily routine even as you reach your goal weight. Some of the positive aspects of green tea, beside fat loss and metabolism when on a green tea weight loss program, are that it has less caffeine than coffee and regular tea. You can drink it all day long and it will have no harmful side effects on your body. It also has a natural relaxant in it known as theanine. Theanine helps to promote a feeling of well being and can improve your productivity as well as your concentration. You might also want to consider going on the green tea weight loss diet in order to derive the most benefits possible from this natural substance
